Clothes Closet Frequently Asked Questions

Who can shop?
The Clothes Closet is Free to any LISD student, regardless of income
(Gratis a todas las familias en LISD. No tenemos requiridos de ingresos. Más información aquí.)

What do students receive?
Each semester: 5 tops, 5 bottoms, 5 pairs of new socks, 5 pairs of new underwear
Per school year: 4 outerwear items (coats, jackets, hoodies, etc.)

How can students shop?
Every new school year (not calendar year), parents/guardians must obtain a NEW Voucher from the school nurse or counselor. Parents must get a voucher for each child. Bring the voucher to the Clothes Closet to shop.

What is a voucher?
The voucher is a form that the school nurse or counselor fills out telling us that your child goes to an LISD school. It will have a place for your child’s name, age, grade and school. That’s it! That’s all we need to know.

How does the voucher work?
The nurse will keep the original of the voucher and will give you the copy. You bring your copy to the Clothes Closet. We keep it on file throughout the school year. You only need one voucher per year for each child. You can shop with us any shopping day we are open until you have reached our limits.
When is the Clothes Closet open?
We are open most Tuesdays (on regular school days) and 1 Saturday a month from 10 am - 12 pm. We need volunteers, accept donations and are open to shoppers starting the second week of school through mid-May. Check our calendar before visiting us, please. Click here.

Where is the Clothes Closet?
The Clothes Closet is located just one block off of Old 183 in Leander in a portable building between LEO and Leander MS at 324 S. West Dr. Click here for directions.

What will volunteers do at Clothes Closet?
Some volunteers prefer to work "behind the scenes": sorting, tagging and hanging clothes on the racks, making sure clothing is sized correctly, straightening clothes and collecting hangers, or looking through a section to make sure the clothes are in style. Other volunteers prefer to work at the front desk, interacting with and assisting shoppers. Whichever type of work you prefer, there's a place for you!
