Substance Use and Abuse: What your teen is not telling you

As a parent, are you a bit (or a lot) in the dark when it comes to the latest drug trends among teens? Would you like to know more about vaping and what can be vaped? How a teen can easily pass a drug test even if he has significant amounts of drugs in his system? How drugs can be hidden in plain sight right under your nose?

If the answer to any of these questions is "Yes," then come to this parent workshop where you will learn about teen drug use trends, what to look for, and how to talk to your teen about this subject.

This is a workshop for parents only. You will see, handle, and learn about commonly used vape and drug related paraphernalia so that you are in the know about what your teen may be either doing, or is surrounded by on a regular basis.

Presenters:

  • Kellena Dunckley, the LISD Healthy Lifestyles Chair and a mom to two LISD teens. Also, the one brave enough to walk into local head shops to purchase and learn about the latest paraphernalia.

  • Cheryl Hill-Burse, the Texas Department of State Health Services Regional Tobacco Prevention and Control Coordinator- Will be there to share her expertise about vaping health effects and trends among teens.

  •  Erika Gonzalez-Lima, Licensed Professional Counselor, PhD, NCC, LPC - Will be there to answer your questions on how to have the 'Drug Talk' with your teen.

You cannot talk to your kids knowledgeably about drug use if you don't know what's out there and what to look for. The first line of defense when dealing with teen substance abuse is arming parents with knowledge!
